Las Baulas National Park

The Las Baulas Marine National Park was established in 1998 to protect the Leatherback sea turtles. While the sea turtles are one of the most important animals here, there are numerous other large animals that co-habitat the national park with the turtles.

  • Leatherback turles
  • American crocodiles
  • Howler monkeys
  • Montezuma Oropendolas

The Las Baulas Marine National Park in Playa Grande is teeming with all sorts of life.  Other than turtles nesting on the Playa Grande and Playa Ventanas, the estuary is the home of some 3-4 meter American crocodiles.  There are numerous troops of howler monkeys hanging out in trees all over town.  And the bird watching is incredible with all sorts of birds like the Montezuma Oropendola and the Caracaras.
